There was a time long ago, when you went to your friendly neighbourhood travel agent and asked him to book a ticket for you, to any location for which he managed to talk you into buying a ticket. He was going to make all the arrangements about the airlines, transportation, and hotels. He was also going to make sure that you did not think of any extra expenditure that you were not entitled to, in the shape of menus and other expenditure, which you had not paid for.
He was possibly going to book you onto a Thomas Cook's tour, where you would be hustled and bustled from one place to another by a guide, upon the route of a guided itinerary, and woe betide the adventurous person who wanted to deviate from the laid out itinerary, by even an iota.
Now, the idea of going travelling the traditional way is getting to be obsolete, when there is a whole brave new world out there in the form of the Internet, to which you can gain access with the click of a finger upon your mouse.
One can book his route with the help of Google earth, which allows him to view the area he is going to pass through, and then decide that yes, a trek in the mountains of Wales is going to be worth the effort. Then he books his trip online, pays for it online, and gets ready for a wonderful holiday abroad.
